mongoose Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I have a problem with the gearbox in my Galaxy and have read in various places that the gearbox selector is quite a common fault. I was just wondering if the syptoms of a gearbox selector problem fit the problem i have.... Any comments and and assistance would be very much appreciated: The problem in my vehicle is that i can press the clutch pedal and select a gear (and it feels like it has gone into gear), but when the clutch is raised there is no drive to the wheels (or axle) and there is a grinding noise. The same happens for all gears (including reverse), but for each different gear selected the grinding noise is of a different pitch. It does feel like the gear is being selected, but maybe it it not locating completeley of something? or maybe the gearbox has completely had it after doing just 40Kmiles. Car details: 2002 Galaxy LX 1.9TDi Manual 6 speed. Cheers. Mongoose Quote
Neils TDi again Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Mongoose, your fault sounds very much like a drive shaft failure, or the interface in the differential in the gearbox. If you can get someone to do the same chack with the car on a ramp you will be able to see if the drive shaft has failed or if the drive atcually turns one wheel but not the other. mongoose Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 Thanks Neil, you were spot on with your diagnosis!!! it was indeed the splines on the drive shaft going to the Diff. Quote
